Additional learning support
At our school, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to succeed. We provide support for students with disability and additional learning needs to ensure they can fully participate in all aspects of school life. A formal diagnosis is not required to access support in mainstream classes, and assistance can begin at any stage of a student's schooling.
Tailored Support for Every Student
Some students benefit from extra support to help them build confidence and reach their full potential. We work in partnership with families to create personalised learning support plans and make adjustments that meet each child’s unique needs.
Support may include:
- Collaboration between teachers, support staff, families, and students (where appropriate)
- Specialist assistance for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
- Tailored programs for high potential and gifted students to extend their learning
- Small group tutoring focused on improving literacy and numeracy skills
- Regular check-ins to monitor progress and adjust support as needed
Classroom and Assessment Adjustments
We make practical adjustments in both classroom settings and assessment tasks to support diverse learning needs. These may include:
In the classroom:
- Accessible learning spaces
- Use of assistive technologies
- Modified teaching materials
- Differentiated learning
- Extra guidance and support during lessons
For assessments:
- Extended time to complete tasks
- Use of simplified language
- Scheduled breaks
- Alternative formats (e.g. oral presentations instead of written work)
Identifying Support Needs
We identify students who may need additional support through:
- Observations by teachers of changes in learning or behaviour
- Reviewing assessment results and learning progress
- Conversations with parents and carers who share concerns or request support
All adjustments are developed in consultation with families and are reviewed regularly to ensure they continue to meet the student’s needs. If you believe your child could benefit from extra support, please contact us.
